I went to school for art, but certainly not for design. The major I was awarded was actually "Interdisciplinary Sculpture". Though my education may lend itself to creating applications, I don't feel qualified for a single thing I am doing these days. Many of the ways I do things are "unique" as I have had to discover processes and tools on my own (now more literally than ever). Though I may do things upside down and backwards, I aspire to create results that emulate the pro's.
Here is an example of an adaptation that occurred as I recently have been forced to create unique artwork (buttons, icons, web, logos, graphics):

This image was created using Vector Magic (a very cool web/OS X app for creating vectors from bitmaps). The most interesting part of the above image is probably it's source:
I've been noodling around with white boards for the past month after finding one in my garage (I just ordered one that is about the same size as my iPad, just for my coffee table). I started using my iPhone to document the white boards before I erase them, sending the images back to my Mac.
I discovered that by choosing the two color, automatic mode in Vector Magic I can quickly turn a spastic white board brainstorming session like this one into a palpable graphic. The resulting images are very human, very primal, and include evidence of the artist's hand. They are almost related to calligraphy.
This one is a bit rough, but keep your eye out for this type of work popping up on the site and in my applications.
